Based on the memorandum of understanding on academic exchange between Kagoshima University (KU) and Sam Ratulangi University (UNSRAT), both universities agreed to cooperate on an academic exchange program. On June 19th, the signing ceremony for this MOU was successfully done at Kagoshima University. From the two universities, Prof. Yoshizane Maeda, President of KU, Prof. Tatsuro Matsuoka, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries, KU, Prof. Toshiro Takezaki from Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences of KU, Prof. Ellen Joan Kumaat, Rector of UNSRAT, Prof. Grevo S. Gerung, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, UNSRAT, and other relevant participants attended the meeting.

Activities of the international cooperation between two universities were initiated in the field of Fisheries Science, with KU and UNSRAT having signed an MOU at the faculty level (Faculty of Fisheries) in February 2011. Since then, international cooperation between the two faculties in the Fisheries Science has accelerated in recent years, when they signed to establish the “International Linkage Program on the Tropical Fisheries” in August 2014, with three other graduate schools in the universities of Southeast Asian countries. Meanwhile, two other graduate schools of KU, the Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences and the Graduate School of Science and Engineering have also accepted the students of UNSRAT in the past a few years, respectively. It can now be said that international cooperation between the two universities has been expanded to the whole university level. We believe that it will be a good influence for our future research and education endeavors at both universities.
