To students and parents Request for cooperation in the “Distance Learning”

Due to the spread of the COVID-19 infection in Japan, the university has postponed the start date of classes to Monday, April 20. However, to ensure the health and safety of students and related parties, and to prevent the spread of the infection, the university has decided that classes from April 20 will essentially be conducted by “Distance Learning”.

“Distance Learning” refers to all forms of instruction other than face-to-face instruction using the internet. The “manaba learning management system” (for distribution of teaching materials and assignment submissions), will be used in conjunction with other live delivery system such as Zoom etc., so that students can take classes from their homes using communication devices such as smartphones, tablets, and PCs.

The “manaba”, it is not only a “Distance Learning system”, but also an online platform for getting the information you need for your future student life.

We will explain how to use it at each department's orientation, so please be sure to pay attention and understand it.

Face-to-face classes will be held as needed after Wednesday, May 6, after thorough infection prevention measures have been taken.

We ask for your cooperation in setting up an adequate Internet environment (such as a WiFi connection) at your home before the classes begin.

If you are unable to take a course at home, you can take a “Distance Learning” course at the university.

It is possible for students to connect to the university's Internet (WiFi, etc.) in the classrooms and other areas of Kagoshima University.

With the spread of COVID-19 infection continuing, and even more classes being postponed, we understand that some of you may be concerned.

We would like to ask for your understanding that the implementation of the “Distance Learning” is a measure that takes into account the health and safety of the students in order to reduce the risk of infection from COVID-19.

【A request to students】.

Due to the special consideration by several telecommunications carriers, we have announced the provision of special communication services, such as new mobile phone capacity limits, to enable students to study at home and other locations through distance learning.

Each telecommunications carrier, based on their understanding of the importance of education, has specially provided this special service to ensure that students can fully participate in distance learning classes at universities, etc.

Students are requested to fully understand that this service is to be used only for the sole purpose of learning through distance education.
