Statement by the President of Kagoshima University on the university's "COVID-19 Workplace Inoculation Program"

[21.06.11]

Kagoshima University Hospital started accepting patients with new coronary infections in July last year, focusing on patients with severe diseases, and has been contributing greatly to the countermeasures against new coronary infections in the Kagoshima area.

In response to the request from Kagoshima Prefecture, we are also planning to dispatch doctors, dentists, nurses, and other medical staff from the university hospital to large-scale vaccination sites.

We are also making contributions at the national level, such as responding to requests from the government to dispatch nurses to Osaka, where the medical system has suffered due to an explosion in the number of infections.

Kagoshima University has about 16,000 students, faculty members, and staff, which accounts for 1% of the population of Kagoshima Prefecture and 3% of the population of Kagoshima city.

In order to reduce the burden of vaccination on local governments and to contribute to the acceleration of the vaccine rollout nationwide, the University has been preparing to implement "vaccination at work" as recommended by the government.

On June 8 of this year, after consultation with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, we registered with the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

The vaccinations will be administered by university hospital doctors, dentists, nurses, and other medical personnel. Vaccinations will be held at the University's Korimoto Campus, and will be administered to students, faculty members, and other members of the University who wish to be vaccinated.

The vaccinations are scheduled to start within June and finish by the end of September.

Last week, we completed discussions with Kagoshima Prefecture and Kagoshima City, and Governor Shiota enthusiastically expressed his support, saying. "This kind of initiative is something we have to ask for from us.”

The mayor of Kagoshima City, Mr. Shimozuru also expressed his support and said "I hope that the inoculation program within the university, which targets a large number of Kagoshima citizens, goes very well.

Kagoshima University will continue to take the initiative to fulfill our mission as a national university and contribute to the medical care of the country and the region, which is in a critical situation due to the corona disaster.
