Responding to the Spread of the Novel Coronavirus Infections
Guidelines for the Application
(The Second Round)

 

 

[Outline of the scholarships]  ※Those who applied for the first round are also eligible.

Kagoshima University will provide support a scholarship that need not to be paid back as an emergency measure to students who need support in their daily life due to significant decrease in income from their part-time job or sudden decrease in their household income etc. caused by the impact of the spread of the Novel Coronavirus infections.

 

[Students eligible for support]

In general, regular students (degree-seeking undergraduates or postgraduate students) in the University, recognized as requiring support in their daily life due to the spread of Novel Coronavirus infections are potential candidates. However, the following students are ineligible:

- Japanese Government sponsored overseas students
- Fellows of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science
- Students receiving any grant-type (need not to be paid back) scholarship of 80,000 yen or more per month
- Other students who cannot be recognized as requiring support in their daily life

 

[Amount of scholarship support]

The scholarship will be provided according to the following categories.

Student category Emergency Support Scholarships
Doctoral student(first semester) 100,000 yen
Master’s student(second semester, including professional degree program)/Undergraduate 50,000 yen

 

[Number of students supported]

Financial support is limited and will be allocated based on the number of applicants from each department.

 

[Source of support fund]

Kagoshima University Academic Support Funds will cover this program.

 

 [Decision on the scholarship recipients]

The decision on the scholarship recipients will be made by the President based on the results of the examination of each application by the faculty or graduate school an applicant belongs to.
Note that students who are approved to receive the scholarship will receive an email from the student affairs department from September 1st to 4th.
The students who received e-mail should submit a "Request for Transfer Form" designated by the University to the Student Affairs Department by September 11th.

 

[The scholarship receiving method]

The scholarship will be transferred by September 18th. to an account in the name of the student written on the application form, after confirming the student's enrollment.

 

[How to apply]

Applicants need to take photos of all the documents required and upload the data. 
Up to four files can be uploaded at once. 
Each file should be less than 5 MB. 
Downsize files if necessary. 
Keep all the original documents.  
 

The students wishing to receive the scholarship should enter the required information on the application form from URL posted on the university's website and upload the data.

In addition, in the written statement of the reasons, please indicate clearly and specifically your need of urgent support in detail, such as difficulties in maintaining a student life due to a drastic decrease in the household income or your income.

 

[Deadline for applications]

August 7th , 2020 17:00

 

[Documentary evidence]

Any student who is approved to receive the scholarship should submit the documents showing that his/her family or part-time job income has been lost or decreased by at least half in the last three months  (income statements or passbooks from which we can check any transfers etc.) or rent receipts, etc. , and be able to submit a copy (with unrelated parts blacked out) at the request of the university.

 

[Refund of the scholarships]

The students will be required to refund the full amount of the scholarship if any of the following applies:

(1) The student does not respond to the University's request for submission of documentary evidence without a justifiable reason.
(2) It becomes clear that the student has made a false declaration.
(3) (Other than above:) It becomes clear that the need for emergency support was not justified.

※Please note that you can apply for the separate "Scholarship for sudden changes in household finances due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection" under the "New System to Support the Study of Higher Education" of the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) at any time, regardless of your receiving this scholarship or not.
